purchased dvd won t install either

Advisor tells me I am good to go but don't expect my scanner to be recognized. No problem.
However my machine never gets to the installation part. It locks up while "gathering information" stage. I assumed the spinning hour glass was an indication of downloading updates.One hour later it is/was still spinning. Any ideas?
I am running AMD AthlonXP 3000, 1.5 gig memory, 3 harddrives, ATI TVWonder, and a GeForce FX5500 256meg graphics card

I am assuming that you are installing from XP.
First make sure you are installing Vista X86 32 bit version. Then try installing from bootup to a clean NTFS formatted primary drive partition. It may be a little slow installing so be patient. If you are installing to a sata drive, be sure to have your driver disk handy. -- I''m Down the Tubes with the whales!
